How to Enable, Disable, and Resize the History Bar

To enable the History bar, point to Explorer Bar on the View menu, and then click History. Or, on the toolbar, click History.

To disable the History bar, point to Explorer Bar on the View menu, and then click History. Or, on the toolbar, click History.

To resize the History bar, drag the border between the left and right panes to the left or right until the History bar is the size you want.

How to Use the History Bar

The History bar displays links to previously viewed Web pages. You can sort the Web pages in the History bar in different ways. You can also search the History list to find a specific site.

To choose a viewing option in the History bar, use the following steps:
  1. Enable the History bar as described above.


  2. On the History Explorer bar, click View, and then click the appropriate viewing option. You can choose from the following viewing options:

    • By Date: You can display links in the History bar by day or week. If you select this option, the History bar displays a list of folders that contain links to individual pages.


    • By Site: You can display links in the History bar sorted alphabetically by the name of the site. If you select this option, the History bar displays a list of folders that contain links to individual pages.


    • By Most Visited: You can display links in the History bar by how often you have visited each site. If you select this option, the History bar displays a list of individual links to Web pages.


    • By Order Visited Today: You can display links in the History bar in the order you viewed them today, beginning with the most recently visited page. If you select this option, the History bar displays a list of individual links to Web pages.




To search the History list for a specific Web page, use the following steps.
  1. Enable the History bar as described above.


  2. On the History Explorer bar, click Search, type the appropriate word or words to find a specific site, and then click Search Now.

    NOTE: If you want to cancel a search, click Stop.
