SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install Internet Explorer version 4.01 or 4.01 Service Pack 1 (SP1), you may receive the following error message:

An error occurred loading C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\Msimnui.dll. The file may not have been installed or it has been corrupted.

Unable to start program. One of the required components may be busy or missing. Please check your installation and try again.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if either of the following situations exists:

• You install Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 2 (SP2), uninstall it, and then install Internet Explorer 4.01.



• You install Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 1 (SP1), uninstall it, and then install Internet Explorer 4.01.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, install Internet Explorer 4.01 SP2 or SP1 again.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
