Internet Explorer Backup Information Needed for Uninstall

SYMPTOMS

After you install Internet Explorer 5, you may be unable to uninstall the Windows Desktop Update.


CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you delete the backup information for your previous version Internet Explorer. To uninstall the Windows Desktop Update, you must restore your previous version of Internet Explorer, and this is not possible if the backup information is deleted.


STATUS

This behavior is by design.

When you choose to delete the backup information for Internet Explorer, you receive the following warning message:

You have chosen to leave Internet Explorer on your system and to delete the information necessary to uninstall Internet Explorer in the future. If you proceed, you will no longer be able to uninstall this Windows component. You should only do this if you do not plan on ever having to uninstall Internet Explorer.

Are you sure you want to continue?


If you then click Yes, the backup information for Internet Explorer is deleted, and you then receive the following message:

Process completed. You no longer have the option to uninstall Internet Explorer.
