Err Msg: A Newer Version of the Component You Have Selected Is Already Installed

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to download Web Publishing Wizard version 1.6, you may receive the following error message:

A newer version of the component you have selected is already installed

CAUSE

This problem can occur if Web Publishing Wizard version 1.6 is already installed on your computer and you do not have the Wpie5x86.cab file on your computer.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, remove Web Publishing Wizard before you install Internet Explorer.

To remove Web Publishing Wizard:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.



2. Click the Install/Uninstall tab.



3. Click Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard 1.6.



4. Click Add/Remove.



5. Click Yes.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem occurs when you click the "Download Only" installation option for Internet Explorer 5 Setup if the Wpie5x86.cab file does not exist in the Windows Update Setup Files folder. If the Wpie5x86.cab file does not exist on your computer, you cannot download Web Publishing Wizard.
