SYMPTOMSWhen the Active Desktop Update component is installed, if the drive mapped to your home folder is unavailable, Control Panel tools, local shortcuts, and commands typed in the Open box may not work. Instead, you may receive the following error message:
RESOLUTIONA supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but
it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems
experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this
specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Internet Explorer service pack

STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATIONIf the Active Desktop Update component is removed (not disabled), the error message does not occur. You can also log off and log back on. Or, you can stop the Explorer.exe process.
