Internet Explorer Proxy Settings Change After Computer Restarts

SYMPTOMS

After you change the proxy server settings in Internet Explorer and restart your computer, your proxy server settings may revert to the original settings.


RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, change the proxy server settings in Safe mode:

  1. Click Start, click Shut Down, click Restart, and then click OK.


  2. When you see the "Starting Windows 95" message, press F8, or if you are using Windows 98, press and hold CTRL.


  3. Choose Safe Mode from the Startup menu, and then press ENTER.


  4. Change your proxy server settings, and then restart your computer.
