How to Use DBCS Characters in Web Forms and E-mail Messages

SUMMARY

You can use Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, or Korean characters (also known as double-byte character set, or DBCS characters) in Web forms and e-mail messages in any language version of Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 95, or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.

To use DBCS characters, download and install Microsoft Global IME from the following Microsoft Web site:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/features/ime.asp
After Global IME is installed, follow these steps:
  1. Please the insertion point in an entry edit area in Internet Explorer, or in the message body of an e-mail message in Microsoft Outlook Express.


  2. Click the Global IME icon in the taskbar, and then switch to the IME keyboard layout.

    A floating toolbar should appear on the screen. IME is selected, but inactive (off).


  3. Press ALT+SHIFT to activate IME. (Pressing ALT+SHIFT again deactivates IME.)


Once IME is active, you can type Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, or Korean text.
