"Problem with Certificate" Installing Macromedia Shockwave Flash

SUMMARY

When you attempt to add the Macromedia Shockwave Flash component from the Internet Explorer 4 Component Download page, the Security Warning dialog box may not report any problems, but you may see the following information when you click the publisher's name:

The Certificate Information section of Certificate properties may state that there is a problem with the certificate.

The Status section of the Details tab on this page may report that the certificate is not valid.

This information does not mean that the signature on the package is invalid. This warning is stating that the signature used to sign the package has expired and cannot be used to sign additional packages in the future.

This behavior may occur with any package that was signed using a signing certificate that has expired. If you receive a "problem with certificate" message, you can check to see if the signing certificate has expired:

In the Certificate Properties dialog box, click the Details tab.

If your computer's system date does not fall within the Valid from range listed, this is most likely why you are receiving the "problem with certificate" message.

If the signing certificate has not yet expired, there may be a different problem with the package or the signature that was used to sign it, and the package may not be safe to install.
