Cannot Download .pdf File with HTTP 1.1 Cache-Control = "no-cache" Directive

SYMPTOMS

When you try to download a .pdf file from a Web site that uses the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) "Cache-Control = 'no-cache'" directive, Internet Explorer may generate the following error message:

Internet Explorer cannot download from the Internet site File_name from Computer_name.

The download file is not available. This could be due to your Security or Language settings or because the server was unable to retrieve the requested file.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Internet Explorer service pack that contains this fix.
