  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5 for Windows NT 4.0
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5 for Windows 95

SUMMARY

This article describes how to determine year 2000 compliance for components included with Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools.

MORE INFORMATION

When you install Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools, some system components may not be updated depending on the installation options you select. For example, if you perform a minimal installation for Internet Explorer 5 on a computer that has a full installation of Internet Explorer 4.x installed, the Microsoft virtual machine, NetMeeting, Outlook Express, Wallet, and other components are not updated. To update all components when you install Internet Explorer 5, click Install Minimal, or customize your browser, and then click Full installation.

For specific details on the year 2000 (Y2K) compliance of Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools components, please check the Microsoft Year 2000 Resource Center Product Guide for the appropriate language version of Internet Explorer (32-bit) 5.0, which should match your language version of Windows. Microsoft Year 2000 Resource Center Product Guides are continually updated with the most current Year 2000 test information at the following Microsoft World Wide Web site:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/year2k/product/product.asp

If you use the minimal installation the first time you run the Internet Explorer 5 Active Setup Wizard (Ie5setup.exe), you can install additional components at a later time using the Windows Update Web site, the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel, or by running the Active Setup Wizard again. For additional information about how to install additional components, click the article numbers below to view the articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

IMPORTANT: If you do not use the full installation option for Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools, then you need to verify the year 2000 status of components that were not updated separately. Please see the separate Year 2000 Resource Center Product Guide for the affected components or their parent product (if the affected component does not have a separate product guide). For example, if you perform a minimal installation of Internet Explorer 5 on a computer running a full installation of Internet Explorer 4, then check the following additional product guides for information on how the components are affected by Y2K issues:
  • Active Movie

  • DirectX

  • Frontpage Express

  • Internet Explorer (32-bit) 4.0x

  • JScript

  • Microsoft OLE DB

  • Microsoft virtual machine

  • MS Data Access Components (MDAC)

  • NetMeeting

  • Outlook Express

  • Visual Basic Scripting

  • Windows Media Player
