Error Message: "IEXPLORE.exe Exception: Access Violation (0xc0000005), Address 0x702be865" When Installing Multiple Packages from More Than One CAB File with an OSD File

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft Internet Explorer Open Software Description (OSD) code download facility (that uses the Java Package Manager[JPM]) to permanently install java class files onto a user's computer, the user is presented with an Security Warning dialog box for each signed cab file that is downloaded from the Web server. When the user clicks Yes on the Security Warning dialog box for the last cab file that is downloaded, the following error message may be displayed:

An application error has occurred
and an application error log is being generated.

This problem only occurs when installing multiple packages from more than one CAB file.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 for Windows NT 4.0 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 for Windows 98 that contains this fix.
