Cannot Display More Than 248 Columns of Text Using PRE Tag

SYMPTOMS

Internet Explorer may be unable to properly display text when line lengths are longer than 4,000 characters. As described in the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base, this is a known limitation in Internet Explorer:

RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Internet Explorer service pack that contains this fix.
