Profile Settings Not Installed for Users Without Local Administrator Access Using Custom .cab/.ins Files

SYMPTOMS

When you use an automatic configuration to set Internet Explorer settings, the changes may not be set for users who do not have local Administrator rights.


CAUSE

This problem occurs because of insufficient privileges for writing to the registry when you are installing the settings from the custom .cab and .ins files created with the Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) Profile Manager tool.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next version of Internet Explorer that contains this fix.
