Cannot Keep Favorites with Automatic Configuration Script

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

If you are using an automatic configuration script in Internet Explorer 5 and the script contains a "Delete Old Channels=1" entry, all entries in the Favorites folder may be deleted.


CAUSE

This problem occurs only if the Channels folder does not exist in the Favorites folder.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Internet Explorer 5.01 service pack that contains this fix.
