SYMPTOMSWhen you attempt to install the update for the "Malformed Favorites Icon" security issue (Q231452.exe), you may receive one of the following error messages:
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you previously installed the update for the ImportExportFavorites issue (Q241361.exe), which also updates the Shdocvw.dll file.
RESOLUTIONTo determine if you are vulnerable to the Legacy ActiveX Control issue, use Registry Editor to locate the following registry key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\Locate the key named: {16E349E0-702C-11CF-A3A9-00A0C9034920}If this key does not exist, or the "Compatibility Flags" binary value (Windows 98/95) or dword (Windows NT) exists and is not equal to 00,04,00,00 (Win99/95) or 0x00,04,00,00, then you may still be vulnerable to the Legacy ActiveX control issue. To resolve this behavior, use Registry Editor to add the following key under the ActiveX Compatibility key: {16E349E0-702C-11CF-A3A9-00A0C9034920}Under this new key, add a "Compatibility Flags" binary value (Windows 98/95) or dword (Windows NT) and set it equal to 00,04,00,00 (Win98/95) or 0x00,04,00,00, MORE INFORMATIONWhen you install the update for the "Malformed Favorites Icon" issue, the update to resolve the "Legacy ActiveX Control" security issue is also installed.
