Error Message "0x8007007a" When Using Task Scheduler

SYMPTOMS

When you are using the add-on Task Scheduler tool that is included with Internet Explorer 5, you may receive any of the following errors messages:

0x8007007a: The data area passed to a system call is too small.
0x80090016: keyset does not exist
Note that this problem occurs only when you install Internet Explorer 5 on a Windows NT 4.0-based computer with 128-bit encryption, on which Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 1 was installed with the Task Scheduler add-on.


RESOLUTION

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

To resolve this issue:

  1. Install Internet Explorer 5.01. You can obtain Internet Explorer 5.01 from the following Microsoft Web site:


  2. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie
  3. After you install Internet Explorer 5.01, delete the following registry key:


  4. HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\UserKeys\Schedule
