GPF Customizing the Start Menu Using Taskbar Properties

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to remove a Start Menu folder using the Taskbar Properties dialog box, you may receive a General Protection Fault (GPF) in Explorer.exe.


CAUSE

This issue can occur because of a compatibility issue with programs that use a GetDispInfo callback routine and the Accessibility Aids portion of Internet Explorer 5.01.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack that contains this fix.
