Map Images May Not Print Properly When Using Internet Explorer

ID: Q249254

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.01 for Windows 98
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.01 for Windows 98 Second Edition
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.01 for Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

When you use Internet Explorer to print a map from a Web site while you are online, the map may not print properly.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you install and use a PostScript printer driver for your printer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use any of the following methods.

Method 1: Save the File to the Hard Disk or Floppy Disk

Save the image to the hard disk or to a floppy disk, and then try to print the image. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click the image (map), and then click Save Picture As.

  2. In the File name box, type a file name for the file.

  3. In the Save in box, click a folder in which you want to save the file, and then click Save.

  4. Open the folder, and then double-click the file to open it in Internet Explorer.

  5. On the File menu, click Print.

Method 2: Install Another Print Driver or Try a Non-PostScript Printer Driver

  1. Uninstall the printer driver. (For Hewlett-Packard printer drivers, rename the hp*.* files in the Windows and Windows\System folders. You may have to restart your computer if you receive file-sharing violation error messages.)

  2. Install the Windows 98 in-the-box printer drivers.

NOTE: For printers for which no in-the-box printer drivers are supplied, install a non-PostScript printer driver for your printer. If there is not a non-PostScript printer driver for your printer, try using a printer driver for another printer. For example, if you print to an HP 4000 Series printer using an HP 4000 Series PS printer driver, install an HP LaserJet 4 printer driver from Windows, and try to print the map again.

Method 3: Use the Printable Map Feature

Use the Printable Map feature on the Yahoo Web site. This feature is only available if you use Internet Explorer 5.01 with Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98. For additional information about the Printable Map feature, please click the following link to view Yahoo Web site:
