Wininet: Dates and Times May Show Up Incorrect in FTP Listings

ID: Q249811

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.01 Service Pack 2 for Windows NT 4.0
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.01 Service Pack 2 for Windows 95
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.01 Service Pack 2 for Windows 98

SYMPTOMS

Dates may show up incorrect in FTP Listings. For example a file created between 12:00 PM and 12:59 PM may show up with the date and time of 1/1/80 12:00pm.

CAUSE

Microsoft Internet Explorer maps times between 12:00AM and 12:59AM to 12:xx and 12:00PM and 12:59PM to 24:xx.

The result is that when you call SystemTimeToFileTime for files with a time stamp between 12:xx and 12:59PM, it fails, causing the default of 1/1/80 12:00PM to be written. Also, the 12:00AM to 12:59AM cases end up being incorrectly converted to 12:xx (24hr time), which is PM.

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem.
