FIX: Compiler Handles Comma as an Operator

ID: Q156911

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Visual J++, version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

The following code compiles with out any errors:

   i++,  j++;
The comma is not defined as an operator in Java and the compiler should not compile the code.

WORKAROUND

The above code works fine and has the desired effect you would expect in C. But because it is not valid Java code, it may not compile with other Java compilers or with later versions of Visual J++.

Change the above lines to valid Java statements as follows:

   i++;
   j++;

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem has been fixed in Visual J++ 1.1.
