SYMPTOMS
When not connected to a network, Internet Explorer hangs during
initialization of Java applets. This problem would normally occur if the
machine is configured to connect to the Internet through a Internet Service
Provider, but, in this case, the connection has not been established.
CAUSEThe Microsoft virtual machine (Microsoft VM) was unnecessarily instantiating a class that attempted to resolve the local machine's IP address. STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in
Visual J++ 1.1 and the Microsoft VM build 1251 or greater.
