SUMMARY

When running Java applets, it may be useful for you to see messages that are printed using System.out.println. In Internet Explorer 3.x and 4.x, output through the System.out stream is stored in a file on the client hard-drive. In Internet Explorer 4.01 you can also view this output in the Java console.

MORE INFORMATION

You need to enable Java logging in Internet Explorer. A Javalog.txt file is created in your %Windir%\java directory. This log file contains all the information that is sent to the System.out stream. To enable Java logging select Options (or Internet Options if using Internet Explorer 4.x) from the View menu. Then click the Advanced tab and Enable Java logging (or Java logging enabled if using Internet Explorer 4.x).

To enable the Java console in Internet Explorer 4.01 select Internet Options from the View menu. Then click the Advanced tab and select Java Console Enabled (requires Restart). Restart your computer. The next time you start Internet Explorer 4.01, you can view the Java console by selecting Java Console from the View menu.

To enable the Java console in Internet Explorer 5, select Internet Options from the Tools menu. Then click the Advanced tab and select Java Console Enabled (requires Restart). Restart your computer. The next time you start Internet Explorer 5, you can view the Java console by selecting Java Console from the View menu.
