PRB: VJ++ 6.0 Wfcforms.dll Fails to Register

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Visual J++, version 6.0
    on the following platforms: Win98, winnt

SYMPTOMS

During the installation of Visual J++ 6.0 you receive the error message:

Wfcforms.dll failed to register
This happens at the end of setup during the "setup is updating your system" phase of the installation.


RESOLUTION

Find the file named Atl.dll located in either C:\Windows\system or C:\Winnt\system32, and rename the file to Atl.old. Copy the Ansi version of Atl.dll from Drive:\OS\system\ansi directory of the Visual J++ CD.

  1. From the Start button select Run.


  2. Type regsvr32 atl.dll and press Enter. A message will display that the Dllregister server succeeded. Click OK.


  3. Reinstall Visual J++
