SUMMARY

When you use the Insert Word Table feature, color formatting may appear incorrect when the object exits the server and returns to PowerPoint. This feature is by design. When the object is returned to PowerPoint, it is recolored to maintain the same color scheme definitions as the rest of the slide show.

This is done so that if you change the color scheme in your presentation, the colors in the table are automatically adjusted to prevent something such as red text on a red background, which would be invisible.


WORKAROUND

To override this behavior, try the following methods:

Method 1: Copy the Table and Use Paste Special

This is the preferred method because it allows multiple colors in the table.
  1. Double-click the Word Table object to activate it.


  2. Select all of the cells in the table and copy the table to the Clipboard.


  3. Click away from the active Word Table object to return back to PowerPoint.


  4. If you are using an AutoLayout placeholder for your table, delete the Word Table object from the placeholder, and then make sure that the placeholder is still selected.


  5. From the Edit menu, choose Paste Special.


  6. Select the Word object type from the list of available types, and click the OK button.


  7. The colors appear to map closer to the original choices made in Word 6.0.


Method 2: Use Recolor to Restore Colors

  1. Select the table object that has had the colors remapped.


  2. From the Tools menu, choose Recolor. You will see a dialog box that has a swatch of each original color in the Word table. Each color that PowerPoint has changed will be selected in the color's check box to the left of that color. Clear all the check boxes and choose OK.


Your Word table will now appear in PowerPoint with the original coloring.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. In slide view, choose Microsoft Word Table from the Insert menu.


  2. Choose 3 rows and 3 columns.


  3. Select the table.


  4. From the Table menu, choose Table AutoFormat, and select the color box.


  5. Choose any of the Colorful# options from the list.


  6. Clear the table and double-click outside of the table to return to PowerPoint.


  7. The colors change.
