SUMMARY

When you start a Microsoft Office program on a Power Macintosh, one of the following may occur when there is not enough available memory:

  • You receive the following error message:
The application <name of program> could not be opened because <library> could not be found.
where <library> is one of the following files:

File mentioned in error File in Extensions folder
          ----------------------- -------------------------

          ObjectSupportLib Object Support Library

    -or-

  • The application begins to start, the toolbars are displayed, and the following error message appears:
One of your object libraries <library> is missing or damaged.

WORKAROUND

To resolve these error messages, use any of the following methods:

Method 1

Turn virtual memory ON. Virtual memory works very differently on a Power Macintosh than on a 680x0 Macintosh. For example, with virtual memory turned on, Microsoft Excel needs approximately 3 MB of memory to run. Without Virtual memory turned on, Microsoft Excel needs approximately 10 MB of memory to run.

Note: After making changes to virtual memory settings, you must restart in order for the changes to take effect.

Method 2

Increase the amount of memory available to the program by quitting other applications.

Method 3

Reinstall the files from the maintenance mode of setup. Then, restart the machine and try again.

If none of the above methods resolve this problem, move the PPC Registration Database, Registration Database and Embedding Preferences files from the "System Folder: Preferences" folder to the desktop and restart the program.
