SUMMARY
This article describes how to configure Turtle Beach sound cards for
use with Microsoft ActiMates characters or the Microsoft
SideWinder Force Feedback Pro joystick.
This information was tested with the following sound card drivers:

To add or update the Turtle Beach Tropez drivers, use the following steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add New Hardware.
- Click Next.
NOTE: If you are using Windows 98, click Next, and then click Next.
- Click No, and then click Next.
- Click Sound, Video And Game Controllers, click Next, and then click
Have Disk.
- Type the path to the location of the updated driver files, and then
click OK.
- Click one of the items from the following list, and then click OK:
- Turtle Beach Tropez
- Turtle Beach Tropez Joystick port
- Turtle Beach Tropez MPU-401 port
- Turtle Beach Tropez WaveFront Synthesizer
- Click Next.
- Click Finish. If you are prompted to restart your computer, click No.
- Repeat the above steps until all you have installed all four items
listed in step 7. After you install the last driver from this list,
when you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
If you have a CD-ROM drive attached to the sound card, repeat the above
steps to install the driver for the CD-ROM drive. When you are prompted
to restart the computer, click Yes.
While the computer is restarting, you are asked if you want to load the
real mode drivers for MS-DOS. The MS-DOS drivers must be loaded for both
the game port and the MPU-401 external MIDI port to initialize properly.
Click Yes, and then press ENTER. Type the path to the disk containing the
driver files, and then click Continue. The MS-DOS drivers are located on
Disk 1 if you downloaded the drivers from the Turtle Beach Web site.
Follow the on-screen instructions to load the MS-DOS drivers. Ensure that
the Sound Blaster Pro, MPU-401, and Game Port devices are all enabled.
Write down the settings assigned to these devices -- they must match the
settings assigned to these devices in Windows. Restart the computer
when you are prompted to. If you receive any errors while Windows is
restarting, restart the computer again.
This sound card requires the serial adapter to work with the SideWinder
Force Feedback Pro joystick.
If, the device still does not work correctly, use the following steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click System.
- On the Device Manager tab, double-click Sound, Video And Game
Controllers.
- Click the MPU-401 Compatible device, and then click Properties.
- On the Resources tab, make sure both an I/O Address Range and an
Interrupt Request are listed. If not, you need to change the Basic
Configuration until both resource types are listed. Click the Use
Automatic Settings check box to clear it, and then start by using
Basic Configuration 0001.
NOTE: You must use the MPU-401 port. On some Turtle Beach cards, the
MPU-401 port is not brought to the back of the card. On these cards,
you will need an adapter cable to connect to the MPU-401 port. Refer
to your sound card documentation for further details.
Tropez +
This is a Plug and Play sound card and Windows should automatically
install the correct drivers. If Windows does not detect the card, you
can download an EEPROM flash utility from the Turtle Beach Web site to
update the sound card with current Plug and Play information.
This sound card requires the serial adapter to work with the SideWinder
Force Feedback Pro joystick.
If, the device still does not work correctly, use the following steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click System.
- On the Device Manager tab, double-click Sound, Video And Game Controllers.
- Click the MPU-401 Compatible device, and then click Properties.
- On the Resources tab, make sure both an I/O Address Range and an
Interrupt Request are listed. If not, you need to change the Basic

To add or update the Turtle Beach Monte Carlo drivers, use the following
steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add New Hardware.
- Click Next.
NOTE: If you are using Windows 98, click Next, and then click Next.
- Click No, and then click Next.
- Click Sound, Video And Game Controllers, click Next, and then click Have Disk.
- Type the path to the location of the updated driver files, and then
click OK.
- Click the Turtle Beach Monte Carlo sound card, and then click OK.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish. If you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.
To install the Gameport Joystick device, use the following steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add New Hardware.
- Click Next, click No, and then click Next.
NOTE: If you are using Windows 98, click Next, click Next, click No,
and then click Next.
- In the Hardware Types list, click Sound, Video And Game Controllers,
and then click Next.
- In the Manufacturers box, click Microsoft.
- In the Models box, click Gameport Joystick, and then click Next.
- Click Next. Insert the Windows CD-ROM if you are prompted to.
- Click Finish. If you are prompted to restart the computer,
click Yes.
If you experience problems with the game port portion of the install,
refer to the file jstick.txt located on the drivers installation disk
for additional information. We encountered no problems with the game
port portion on a new/clean install of the driver.
Tahiti
The Turtle Beach Tahiti sound card is incompatible with ActiMates
characters and the PC Pack Transmitter. If you are using a Turtle Beach
Tahiti sound card, you will need to purchase a new sound card before
you can use ActiMates characters and the PC Pack Transmitter with your
computer. This sound card uses a non-standard external MIDI interface
that does not supply power to the PC Pack Transmitter.
The SideWinder Force Feedback Pro joystick should work properly with
this sound card.
To add or update the Turtle Beach Tahiti drivers, use the following
steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add New Hardware.
- Click Next.
NOTE: If you are using Windows 98, click Next, and then click Next.
- Click No, and then click Next.
- Click Sound, Video And Game Controllers, click Next, and then click
Have Disk.
- Type the path to the location of the updated driver files, and
then click OK.
- Click the Turtle Beach Tahiti sound card, and then click OK.
- Click Next. If you receive a message about a hardware conflict,
do not start the Hardware Conflict Troubleshooter.
- Click Finish. If you are prompted to restart your computer,
click Yes.
To install the Gameport Joystick device, use the following steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add New Hardware.
- Click Next, click No, and then click Next.
NOTE: If you are using Windows 98, click Next, click Next, click No,
and then click Next.
- In the Hardware Types list, click Sound, Video And Game Controllers,
and then click Next.
- In the Manufacturers box, click Microsoft.
- In the Models box, click Gameport Joystick, and then click Next.
- Click Next. Insert the Windows CD-ROM if you are prompted to.
- Click Finish. If you are prompted to restart the computer,
click Yes.
If you experience problems with the game port portion of the install,

Run the winsetup.exe file located on the drivers installation disk.
The game port for this card is typically not included and connects to
a header on the card.
This card requires the serial adapter to work with the Sidewinder
Force Feedback Pro.
Wave Front or TBS 2000
To configure your Turtle Beach Wave Front or TBS 2000 sound card to work
with the ActiMates PC Pack Transmitter and the Microsoft ActiMates
software, or the SideWinder Force Feedback Pro joystick, make sure you
have the latest sound card drivers available from Turtle Beach. Turtle
Beach cards are often shipped with the external MIDI port disabled. To
configure these Turtle Beach sound cards, select Basic Configuration 0001.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click System.
- On the Device Manager tab, double-click Sound, Video And Game
Controllers.
- Click the MPU-401 Compatible device, and then click Properties.
- On the Resources tab, make sure both an I/O Address Range and an
Interrupt Request are listed. If not, you need to change the Basic
Configuration until both resource types are listed. Click the Use
Automatic Settings check box to clear it, and then start by using
Basic Configuration 0001.
- If a device conflict message appears in the Conflicting Device area,
you will need to change the settings for either the sound card or the
conflicting device.
