SUMMARY
This article describes how to configure Media Vision sound cards for
use with Microsoft ActiMates characters or the SideWinder
Force Feedback Pro joystick.
This information was tested with the following sound card drivers:
Media Vision Pro Audio 3D
Driver version tested: Windows 95 default/DX 4.0.950
Date: 8-24-96
Media Vision Pro Audio Spectrum
Driver version tested: Windows 95 default/DX 4.0.950

Media Vision ProSonic

To configure your Media Vision sound card to work with the ActiMates PC
Pack Transmitter and the Microsoft ActiMates characters or the SideWinder
Force Feedback Pro joystick, make sure you have the latest sound card
Drivers available from Media Vision. Media Vision sound cards are often
Shipped with the external MIDI port disabled. To configure these Media
Vision sound cards, choose Basic Configuration 0001. Use the appropriate
section below for information specific to your sound card.
Pro Audio 3D
To add or update the Pro Audio 3D drivers, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click
Control Panel.
- Double-click Add New Hardware.
- Click Next.
NOTE: If you are using Windows 98, click Next, and then click Next.
- Click Yes, and then click Next. Windows should detect
the Media Vision Pro/Premium 3D.
- Click Finish. If you are prompted to restart the computer,
click Yes.
You must now enable the external MIDI port. To do so, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click
Control Panel.
- Double-click System.
- On the Device Manager tab, double-click Sound, Video And
Game Controllers.
- Double-click Media Vision Pro/Premium 3D.
- On the Resources tab, click the Use Automatic Settings
check box to clear it.
- In the Setting Based On box, click Basic Configuration
0001.
- Click OK. When you are prompted to continue, click
Yes.
- Click Close. If you are prompted to restart the computer,
click Yes.
NOTE: If you are using the drivers that were included with this card, running the MS-DOS Setup program may improve performance. The resource settings assigned by the MS-DOS Setup program must match the Windows resource settings listed in Device Manager.

Pro Audio Spectrum
To add or update the Pro Audio Spectrum drivers, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click
Control Panel.
- Double-click Add New Hardware.
- Click Next.
NOTE: If you are using Windows 98, click Next, and then click Next.
- Click Yes, and then click Next. Windows should detect
the Media Vision ProAudio Spectrum/Studio with SCSI.
- Click Finish.
The following devices should be automatically installed by Windows:
- Media Vision ProAudio Spectrum 16/Plus/Studio Audio
- Media Vision ProAudio Spectrum 16/Studio with SCSI
- Media Vision Sound Blaster Compatibility
- Gameport Joystick
Do not restart the computer until the Gameport Joystick device is
installed. If Windows does not install the Gameport Joystick device,
restart the computer. Windows should now detect and install the Gameport
Joystick device while restarting. After the Gameport Joystick device is
installed, restart the computer.
This device has a SCSI controller that you can disable unless it is
required for a SCSI CD-ROM drive. To disable the SCSI controller, use
the following steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click
Control Panel.
- Double-click System.
- On the Device Manager tab, double-click SCSI
Controllers.
- Click the Trantor Media Vision SCSI Host Controller, and then
click Properties.
- On the General tab, click the Disable In This Hardware
Profile check box to select it.
- Click OK or Close until you return to Windows.
This device may cause resource conflicts that you can resolve using Device
Manager. To check for resource conflicts, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings and then click
Control Panel.
- Double-click System.
- On the Device Manager tab, double-click Sound, Video And
Game Controllers.
If you see a yellow exclamation point next to the listing for the Media
Vision ProAudio Spectrum 16/Studio with SCSI, this device is causing
resource conflicts that you must resolve. To do so, use the following
steps:
- Click Media Vision ProAudio Spectrum 16/Studio with
SCSI, and then click Properties.
- On the Resources tab, click the Use Automatic Settings
check box to clear it.
- In the Setting Based On box, click Basic Configuration
0002.
- In the list of resources, click the first Interrupt Request,
and then click Change Setting.
- Select a value of 05 (try this first), 07, or 09. Make sure the value
you select is not in use by another device, and then click
OK.
- In the list of resources, click the first Direct Memory
Access, and then click Change Setting.
- Select a value of 03 (try this first), 00, 01, or 05. Make sure the
value you select is not in use by another device, and then click
OK.
- In the list of resources, click the second Interrupt Request,
and then click Change Setting.
- Select a value of 09 (try this first), 05, or 07. Make sure the value
you select is not in use by another device, and then click OK.
Do not re-use the value you selected in step 5 above. This Interrupt
Request is used by the SCSI controller.
- In the list of resources, click the third Interrupt Request,
and then click Change Setting.
- Select a value of 07 (try this first), 05, or 09. Make sure the value
you select is not in use by another device, and then click OK.
Do not re-use the values you selected in steps 5 and 9 above. If all
three of these values are in use, you can select another available
value.
- In the list of resources, click the second Direct Memory
Access, and then click Change Setting.
- Select a value of 01 (try this first), 00, 03, or 05. Make sure the
value you select is not in use by another device, and then click
OK. Do not re-use the value you selected in step 7
above.
- Click OK. When you are prompted to continue, click
Yes.
- Click Close. If you are prompted to restart the computer,
click Yes.

ProSonic
To add or update the ProSonic drivers, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click

- Double-click Add New Hardware.
- Click Next.
NOTE: If you are using Window 98, click Next, and then click Next.
- Click Yes, and then click Next. Windows should detect
the Media Vision ProAudio Deluxe/ProSonic/Jazz-16.
- Click Finish. If you are prompted to restart the computer,
click Yes.

- Double-click System.

Media Vision Pro Audio 16
The Media Vision Pro Audio 16 sound card was incompatible with ActiMates
characters and the PC Pack Transmitter at the time this Microsoft ActiMates
software was released. If you are using a Media Vision Pro Audio 16 sound
card, you will need to purchase a new sound card before you can use
ActiMates characters and the PC Pack Transmitter with your computer.
