WD98: Clicking Finish in Memo Wizard Causes Word to Quit

SYMPTOMS

When you click Finish in the Agenda or Memo Wizard dialog box, Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition quits unexpectedly.

This problem may also occur with the Resume Wizard, Newsletter Wizard, or with the Calendar Wizard.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:

• You are running Word 98 on an Apple Power Macintosh G3 (or have a computer with a 512K or larger cache).
  
  NOTE: This problem has also been reported to occur on the UMAX S900 Power Macintosh clone.

• You run an add-in or wizard from Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, or from a third-party program. (Note that an add-in contains compiled code. It is this compiled code that causes the problem. Compiled code is typically code developed by professional programmers.)
  
  NOTE: The problem has only been discovered in Word 98 wizards to date. No other wizards or add-ins have displayed the problem. Recorded macros should not be affected (unless they use compiled code, which most do not).

• You complete the steps in the wizard without soliciting help from the Office Assistant.

RESOLUTION

NOTE: You do not need this update if you already have version 8.1 or 8.2 of Visual Basic for Applications. Before you attempt to install the Memo-Resume Wizard Updater 1.0 program, follow these steps to check the version of Visual Basic for Applications you have installed:

1. On your Macintosh HD, open the Microsoft Office 98 folder.



2. Double-click the Office folder.



3. In the Office folder, select the Visual Basic for Applications file.



4. On the File menu, click Get Info.



5. In the Visual Basic for Applications Info dialog box, if the version is 8.1 or 8.2, you do not need to run the Memo-Resume Wizard Updater 1.0.
   
   NOTE: If you have version 8.1 installed and you run the Memo-Resume Wizard Updater 1.0," your Visual Basic for Applications file will be updated to version 8.2.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
