SMTPSVC May Strip Message Body When Message Contains BCC

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Commercial Internet System (MCIS) version 2.0 SMTPSVC service on a computer running Windows NT version 4.0 Service Pack 4 may strip the message body when a message contains bcc information.


CAUSE

The message body is only stripped if the bcc information immediately precedes the message body contents.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows NT 4.0 or the individual software update. For information on obtaining the latest service pack, please go to:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, avoid the use of bcc information with messages delivered.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet System version 2.0. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT version 4.0 Service Pack 5.
