The DirectX Diagnostic Tool is a troubleshooting tool you can use to help determine if DirectX is working correctly and has all the necessary files installed.

The DirectX Diagnostic Tool is installed in the following default folder:

C:\Program Files\Directx\Setup

NOTE: The file name of the DirectX Diagnostic Tool is Dxdiag.exe.

The following information describes the contents of the different tabs in the DirectX Diagnostic Tool dialog box.

Help

This tab displays information about your computer and the version of DirectX installed on your computer.

DirectX Files

The DirectX Files tab lists the names and version numbers of the DirectX files installed on your computer. This tab also displays warning messages if there are any problems.

DirectX Drivers

The DirectX Drivers tab lists the names and version numbers of the DirectX driver files installed on your computer. This tab also displays warning messages if there are any problems.

Display

The Display tab shows your current Display settings, provides tests for both DirectDraw and Direct3D, and allows you to enable or disable hardware acceleration. This tab also displays warning messages if there are any problems.

Sound

The Sound tab shows your current Sound settings and provides a test for DirectSound. This tab displays warning messages if there are any problems.

Input

The Input tab lists the input devices and drivers currently installed on your computer. This tab displays warning messages if there are any problems.
