PRB: PR_SECURITY Property is Ignored by Exchange Server

ID: Q177853

The information in this article applies to:
  • Exchange Development Kit (EDK), version 5.0
    on the following platforms: NT
  • Extended Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI), version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

When set in Exchange Client custom forms, the PR_SECURITY property is disregarded by Exchange Server.

CAUSE

Exchange Server does not use this flag.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

A custom Exchange form that sets this property to take advantage of Advanced Security will not operate as expected. When this form is used to send a Signed message to a mailbox where Advanced Security is enabled, the Exchange Server does not prompt for a security file password. This is because the Exchange Server disregards the PR_SECURITY property.

The Microsoft Developer Network Library (MSDN) topic on PR_SECURITY states the following:

The underlying messaging system chooses whether to use the flag Contained in the PR_SECURITY property.

Additional query words: PR_SECURITY property flag security advanced signed
