PC Ext: Memory Requirements for the External Mail Program

SUMMARY

You can use the following formula to estimate how much memory the Microsoft Mail for PC Networks External Mail program (EXTERNAL.EXE) will require to run without memory problems.

There are two major categories of memory usage for EXTERNAL.EXE:

1. General Memory Requirements

2. External Postoffice Servicing Requirements (Servicing memory is required for mail dispatching, and so on.) The following figures can be used to determine each postoffice's servicing requirements:

         Number of external networks     Multiplied (*) by 45 bytes

         Number of gateways              Multiplied (*) by 83 bytes
         Number of gateway nodes/DGNs    Multiplied (*) by 83 bytes 

   For example:
   
   The following example will show the EXTERNAL.EXE memory requirements dispatching between two postoffices, each with 100 users defined. No gateways are involved.
