SMTP: Encapsulation and the SMTP Gateway

ID: Q87039

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Mail Gateway to SMTP, version 3.0

SUMMARY

Message Encapsulation is the process Microsoft Mail uses to send mail transparently from one Microsoft Mail postoffice through a gateway (for example, SMTP) to another Microsoft Mail postoffice. This means that when the user receives the mail message, it is indistinguishable from other Microsoft Mail messages--all heading fields (TO, CC, SUBJECT, PRIORITY, and ATTACHMENTS) are preserved.
