Err Msg: Could Not Connect to a Multicast Channel (Error=C00D07F2)

ID: Q232987

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player version 6.1

SYMPTOMS

When you try to join a live audio or video broadcast using Windows Media Player, the following error message appears:

Could not connect to a multicast channel (Error=C00D07F2)

CAUSE

When Windows Media Player tries to connect to a live broadcast and does not receive a response within 20 seconds, it cancels the connection attempt. This usually indicates that your network may not be configured to handle a live broadcast protocol, known as multicast. Dial-up connections in particular often do not support this type of broadcast.

RESOLUTION

Contact your network administrator and find out if your network is configured for multicast broadcasts.
