Rights Manager ISAPI Filter Is Not Loaded when Site Server Is Present

SYMPTOMS

When clients attempt to download content from the sample Rights Manager Web site, the content streams to the client instead of downloading.

CAUSE

The Internet Server Application Programming Interface (ISAPI) filter Asfcopy.dll has not been properly installed when Rights Manager is installed on a computer with Site Server 3.0.

RESOLUTION

Steps to Load the ISAPI Filter Manually

1. Start the Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) Internet Service Manager.



2. In the Management Console, expand Internet Information Server so that you see your computer name.



3. Select the icon beside your computer name.



4. From the Action menu, select Properties.



5. Under Master Properties, make sure that WWW Service is selected and click Edit.



6. On the ISAPI Filters tab, click Add.



7. For the filter name, type asfcopy.



8. Click browse and locate the file Asfcopy.dll (which is is typically in the folder C:\Inetpub\Scripts).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows Media Rights Manager version 1.0.
