Service Names Not Upgraded

The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft Windows Media Services version 4.0
Microsoft Windows NT Server NetShow Services version 3.0

SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade Windows NT NetShow Services 3.0 to Windows Media Services 4.0, not all of the service names are changed from NetShow to Windows Media.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows Media Services version 4.0.

The services names for Windows Media Services 4.0 appear as follows:

Windows Media Monitor Service
NetShow Program Service
NetShow Station Service
NetShow Unicast Service

If you install Windows Media Services 4.0 without having a previous version on the computer, you will have the following services:

Windows Media Monitor Service
Windows Media Program Service
Windows Media Station Service
Windows Media Unicast Service

This difference in naming does not affect the functionality of the server.
