ACC2000: Spelling Checker Ignores Misspelled Uppercase Words

SYMPTOMS

Although the spelling checker has been installed correctly, it ignores misspelled words.


CAUSE

In the Spelling Options dialog box, under Ignore, Microsoft Access selects the option Words in UPPERCASE by default. The text that you are checking consists entirely of uppercase letters, so it appears that the spelling checker is not working properly.


RESOLUTION

Type some misspelled data in lowercase letters, and then use the spelling checker. When the Spelling dialog box appears, click Options. In the Spelling Options dialog box, under Ignore, click to clear the Words in UPPERCASE check box, and then click OK.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Create a new table in Datasheet view.


  2. Type XXXYYY.


  3. On the Tools menu, click Spelling. Although the text is misspelled, you receive the following message:


  4. The spelling check is complete.
