ACC2000: Error Adding a List Box or Dropdown List to a Page

This article applies only to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb).


SYMPTOMS

When you try to add a list box or drop-down list box to a data access page, you may receive the following error:

The Wizard will only run when your current database is the datasource for your page.


CAUSE

This behavior may occur when the following conditions are true:

  • You try to add a control while the Control Wizards is enabled.


  • -and-

  • You use different types of connection when you create and open the database. For example, you create the database by using a UNC path (\\<servername>\<sharename>\Db1.mdb), but you open the database by using a mapped drive (F:\Db1.mdb).



RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, follow these steps:

  1. If the field list is not visible, on the View menu, click Field List. In the field list, click the Database tab.


  2. Right-click the database icon. On the shortcut menu, click Connection.


  3. In the Select or enter a database name box, type the full path that you used when you opened the database. For example, type F:\Db1.mdb.

    NOTE: If you are entering a drive letter, you must use the same drive letter that you used to open the database.


  4. Type the user name and password, and then click OK.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
