ACC2000: Cannot Import/Link Data in Enabled Database

SYMPTOMS

When you open a database created with an earlier version of Microsoft Access without converting the database (enabling it), you are unable to link or to import data.


RESOLUTION

You can either convert the database to the version of Microsoft Access you're opening it with or use the version of Microsoft Access the database was created in to open the database and to import the data.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Start Microsoft Access.


  2. Open a database created with an earlier version of Microsoft Access.


  3. In the Convert/Open Database box, click the Open Database option and click OK.


  4. Click the File menu.


  5. Note that the Get External Data command is unavailable.
