ACC2000: Changing Data Link Property for Connection Timeout Drops Connection

SYMPTOMS

Using Access Client/Server, if you try to change the Data Link property for Connection Timeout, the connection is dropped and re-opened; this forces edited objects to be saved and automatically commits uncommited records.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Create a new Microsoft Access Project.


  2. On the File menu, click Connection.


  3. On the Connection tab, enter valid information to connect to the Microsoft SQL Server sample database called Pubs.


  4. On the Advanced tab, set the Connection Timeout to 0 and click OK.


  5. Open the Employees table in Datasheet view.


  6. Edit a record but do not commit the changes; that is, leave the record in edit mode.


  7. Minimize the Datasheet.


  8. On the File menu, click Connection and click the Advanced Tab.


  9. Set Connecion Timeout to 15 and click OK.


Note that the Employees table has been closed. As the connection is dropped and re-estabilished, all objects need to be saved and closed; hence, records in an uncommited state are automatically committed.
