ACC2000: Can't Save Large VBA Project in Windows NT 4.0

This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and a Microsoft Access project (.adp).

SYMPTOMS

When you try to save your database's Visual Basic for Applications project in Microsoft Access 2000 running on Windows NT 4.0, you may receive the following error message:

The Save Operation Failed.

This may be followed with the error:

Microsoft Access could not save your project.

CAUSE

You have Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3 (SP3) installed. If your database's Visual Basic for Applications project is several megabytes in size, you may not be able to save it in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3.

RESOLUTION

Upgrade to Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 (SP4).

The Microsoft Visual Basic Environment (VBE) uses OLE storages to read and write Visual Basic for Applications projects. In Windows NT 4.0 SP3, a low memory condition could occur when reading and writing to a large OLE storage. In Windows NT 4 SP4 this behavior is corrected.
