XL5: Errors When Trying to Use Charting Toolbar Buttons

SUMMARY
In Microsoft Excel version 5.0 for Windows, if you set the Objects setting
on the View tab to Hide All in a chart sheet or in an embedded chart, or if
you protect the chart sheet, you will be unable to use the ChartWizard
button, the Chart Type button, or the chart buttons from the Chart Type
tear-off palette.
WORKAROUNDS
To format a series in the chart when the Objects setting on the View tab
has been set to Hide All or the chart sheet has been protected, do any of
the following:
- Select the series and choose Selected Data Series from the Format menu.
-or-
- Set the Objects setting to Show All or Show Placeholders.

- Unprotect the chart sheet.

- In a new worksheet in a new workbook, enter the following values:
A1: 1 B1: 2 C1: 3
- Select cells A1:C1.
- From the Insert menu, choose Chart, and then choose As New Sheet.
- In the ChartWizard dialog box, choose the Finish button.
- In the chart sheet, choose Options from the Tools menu.
- Select the View tab.
- In the Objects section, select the Hide All option. Choose
OK to accept the change.
- Try to select one of the following buttons:
- The ChartWizard button on the Chart or Standard toolbar
- The Chart Type button on the Chart toolbar
- If any are visible, one of the buttons from the Charting tear-off
palette
You will not be able to make any of the buttons operate. Clicking any
of them has no effect. To use them, you must do both of the following:
- Set the Objects setting to Show All or Show Placeholders.

- If it is protected, unprotect the chart sheet. To do this, choose
Protection from the Tools menu, and then choose Unprotect Sheet.
