SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Excel, you receive a general protection (GP) fault when you open a worksheet that has been saved in the Microsoft Excel 3.0 Worksheet or 4.0 Worksheet format if the worksheet contains a cell that refers to a named 3-D range on another workbook and follows a cell that refers to a cell that is included in that named 3-D range. WORKAROUNDSTo work around this problem, do any of the following:

If you save a worksheet that contains 3-D a reference to the workbook
