SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Excel, when you create an embedded chart, the built-in default chart format may be applied, even when you set a custom chart format as the default. CAUSE
When you create a chart in Microsoft Excel, your custom chart format that
you have set as the default chart type may not be used if:
-and- WORKAROUND
If you experience the above described behavior, manually apply the custom
default chart format to your embedded chart. To do this, use the AutoFormat
feature as follows:

In Microsoft Excel, you can set the Default Chart Format on the Chart tab
by choosing Options from the Tools menu. From the Default Chart Format
list, you can select the built-in format or a custom chart format you have
created. You can also choose the Use The Current Chart button to create a
custom chart format that contains the formatting applied to the current
