SYMPTOMSIn a Microsoft Excel workbook, if you insert a link to another Microsoft Excel workbook, and that workbook itself contains a link to the first workbook, your computer responds very slowly and may stop responding (hang). CAUSE
In applications that support Object Linking and Embedding (OLE)
version 2.0, you can insert the contents of a file into your document
and link to the file so that changes to the source file are reflected
in your document. However, if you use this functionality in Microsoft
Excel to link to a workbook, and you create a circular reference in
the process, you do not receive an error message, but your system
will respond very slowly and may hang.
WORKAROUND
Avoid creating circular references when linking a Microsoft Excel
workbook to another workbook.
