XL5: Labels Cut Off in 3-D Pie Chart

ID: Q115428

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 5.0

SUMMARY

If you are using the ChartWizard in Microsoft Excel version 5.0 to create a 3-D pie chart, and you format it with a subtype numbers two (2) or five (5), either as an embedded chart or on a new sheet, long data labels may extend beyond the chart area borders.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel version 5.0c for Windows.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do the following:

  1. If the chart is embedded on a worksheet, double-click it to activate it.

  2. From the Format menu, choose AutoFormat, and then choose OK.

The chart will adjust its size and the text in the data labels will wrap if they're too long. The labels should no longer extend beyond the borders of the chart area.
