ID: Q115580

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 4.0, 4.0a, 5.0, 5.0c

SYMPTOMS

If you copy a chart in Microsoft Excel that contains rotated or colored text and paste it to a document in another Microsoft Windows application, one or more of the following symptoms occur:

Microsoft Excel version 5.0 and 5.0c Chart

- Colored text is displayed in black

Microsoft Excel versions 4.0 and 4.0a Chart

  • Rotated unattached text is not displayed on the chart

  • Colored text is displayed in black

  • Rotated axis text does not appear to be rotated

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you paste a Microsoft Excel version 5.0 chart as a picture, or when you paste or link a Microsoft Excel version 4.0 chart as a Microsoft Excel Chart object or picture.

NOTE: This problem does not occur in later versions of Microsoft Excel.

WORKAROUNDS

NOTE: This behavior only affects the appearance of the chart in the application to which you pasted the chart. When you print the chart, correct orientation of the chart text is maintained.

To avoid the incorrect display of text color on a Microsoft Excel version 5.0 chart, link the Microsoft Excel chart as a Picture. Note that you can also paste or link the chart as a bitmap or chart object.

To avoid the incorrect display of text color or rotation on a Microsoft Excel version 4.0 chart, paste or link the Microsoft Excel chart as a bitmap. You can do this by choosing Paste Special from the Edit menu in the application to which you are pasting the chart, and then selecting Bitmap from the As list.
