Cue Cards Don't Work When Displayed Off the Screen

ID: Q116331

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Query for Windows, version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Query, when you choose Cue Cards from the Help menu, or when you choose a Help topic that uses a Cue Card, the MS Query Cue Cards screen does not appear.

CAUSE

The file Ccard100.ini, located in your Windows folder, contains information about where the Cue Cards for Microsoft Query version 1.0 will be displayed on the screen. If the numbers are incorrect, the Cue Cards may be displayed off of the screen. You will not receive an error message alerting you to this problem.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do the following:

  1. Close Microsoft Query, and rename or delete the Ccard100.ini file (located in your Windows folder).

  2. Start Microsoft Query again to access the Cue Cards.

This procedure will create a new Ccard100.ini with the default settings for the current video resolution.

MORE INFORMATION

The Ccard100.ini contains settings for the Cue Cards. For example, if you have Microsoft Query version 1.0 installed, Ccard100.ini will contain the following section:

   [msquery.cue]
   left=0.698750
   top=0.150000
   lleft=0.218750
   ltop=0.150000
These numbers are a percentage of the screen for the two types of cards (small and large) that Cue Cards has. For example, left=0.698750 means that the small card left margin will be placed at approximately 69-percent to the left of the current screen.

If the positions specified in this section are positions that do not show on the screen, the Cue Cards will be displayed off of the screen. For example, the following section would display the Cue Cards off of the screen on an 800x600 video resolution:

   [msquery.cue]
   left=1.000000
   top=1.000000
   lleft=8.000000
   ltop=33.000000
