ID: Q118997

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 4.0, 4.0a, 5.0, 5.0c

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, when you change the axis scale on a chart, the position of unattached text on the chart is changed as well.

CAUSE

Unattached text on a chart is moved relative to the chart axis scale. For example, if you change the scale of the y axis, the vertical position of unattached text on your chart changes relative to this change in scale. If you change the scale of the x axis, the horizontal position of unattached text on your chart changes.

WORKAROUND

To avoid this behavior, change the axis scale on your chart before you position your unattached text on the chart.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
