Numeric Values Truncated Saving to dBASE Table

ID: Q119058

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Query for Windows, version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Query, when you save a query as a dBASE table, the values in a column of Float, Real, or Double data type are truncated to the first five decimal places.

CAUSE

Real, Float, and Double data types are approximate numerics, meaning that they can lose insignificant digits. You receive a warning in Microsoft Query if significant digits are truncated.

Note that the same behavior occurs when you export a table as a dBASE table in Microsoft Access. This is not a problem saving a query to a Paradox data table.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
